Dr. Naseem Tofail Mahmud is a highly accomplished Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with more than 30 years of clinical, academic, and international experience. She currently serves as the Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Continental Hospital (Formerly United Hospital), Dhaka.
She graduated with an MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, and later earned a PhD in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from the Nagasaki University School of Medicine, Japan, in 1993. She also completed a five-year Clinical Fellowship at Nagasaki University Hospital, where she received advanced training in Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, Ultrasonography, and Laparoscopic Surgery. In addition, she obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine (DTM) from Nagasaki University.
Dr. Mahmud has extensive international experience, having worked for five years at Nagasaki University Hospital, Japan, and fourteen years at King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to delivering evidence-based, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
One of Dr. Mahmud's most notable achievements is the establishment of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at United Hospital (now Continental Hospital). From its inception, she played a pivotal leadership role in recruiting doctors, developing departmental policies and clinical protocols, training doctors and nurses, and building a strong culture of quality patient care. She has also been actively involved in mentoring MRCOG candidates, providing structured teaching in clinical practice, surgical skills, and research methodology, thereby contributing significantly to the development of future obstetricians and gynaecologists in Bangladesh.
Her special clinical interests include Subfertility (Infertility Management), High-Risk Pregnancy, and Gynecologic Oncology. She has authored and co-authored numerous publications in both national and international medical journals, reflecting her commitment to academic excellence and advancing women's healthcare.
A recipient of several prestigious international scholarships and awards, Dr. Mahmud was awarded the Monbusho Scholarship and Yoneyama Rotary Scholarship in Japan. She also received multiple recognitions for her outstanding Japanese language proficiency, including the Champion Award in the Japanese Speech Contest for Foreign Students (Fukuoka, 1989) and the Japanese Foreign Ministry Award in Osaka. Her exceptional achievements further earned her the honorary distinction of One-Day City Mayor (Ichi-nichi Shicho) in Nagasaki, Japan. During her tenure at King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH), Riyadh, she was honored with the Best Resident Award in 1994.
